Doubling the booking does not double the time aloft — neither listing publishes a time aloft at all — but it does buy room. Room for a later slot if the morning air is wrong, room for photographs on the ground, room to not be hurrying back to a cable car.

What the arithmetic says. $209 for sixty minutes of booking works out dearer per hour than $234 for a hundred and twenty. That makes the longer line the better buy on paper and the worse buy on a tight schedule, which is the usual shape of this kind of choice.
